Core Accountabilities: Reporting to the School Principal, an East Wake Academy teacher is an instructional leader who helps each student grow to his or her full potential. Working in collaboration with other teachers, instructional leaders, and school administrators, the Teacher plans, organizes, and implements an appropriate and differentiated instructional program that meets the individual needs of all learners in the classroom.

Responsibilities:

  • Design instruction around state standards that is rigorous and is correlated to school-wide and teacher-created learning outcomes
  • Organize classroom systems and procedures and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds
  • Utilize data to accommodate, differentiate, or modify curriculum
  • Research and use a variety of methods to engage students in the classroom
  • Develop assessments that measure student progress; continuously use formative and summative assessment data to refine curriculum and instructional practices
  • Evaluate student progress through the use project based learning and formative assessments
  • Assume responsibility for the progress of all students, including developing intervention plans for students who do not meet instructional goals
  • Develop plans for paraprofessionals providing intervention or enrichment to small groups
  • Provide students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress; find ways to involve parents/guardians in their child’s education
  • Collaborate with the Principal and Professional Learning Community to develop curriculum and create strategic plans
  • Track critical student data
  • Maintain accurate attendance records in PowerSchool on a daily basis
  • Update grades in PowerSchool on a weekly basis
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support for, East Wake Academy’s mission, vision, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and ethical code of behavior
  • Support and reinforce school procedures (e.g., monitoring of student transitions and dismissal)
  • Enforce and model school-wide behavioral expectations
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate entrepreneurship and character development into the curriculum
  • Design and deliver presentations to engage families in their child’s education
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal that support instructional excellence at East Wake Academy

The physical activity of this position.

  • Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and or heavy equipment.

Physical exertion of the position. (Please check only one):

  • Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
